Tuuli Oikkonen (b. 1989) is a visual artist and art teacher originally from Northern Ostrobothnia. Her works have been exhibited since 2018 both in Finland and abroad. Oikkonen earned a Master’s degree in Arts from the University of Lapland in Rovaniemi in 2019. She currently lives and works in Turku.
Oikkonen is intrigued by humans as psychophysical beings — a whole entity. Recently, she has been exploring the layered nature of life from mental, social, and physical perspectives. Through her work she reflects on the extreme need in our time to feel safe and the parallel fear of anything strange or unfamiliar. Primarily, Oikkonen paints on the floor, engaging physically with the canvas, layering flowing paint in overlapping, translucent washes. Working with clay and various printmaking techniques provides an important balance — their slow, grounding nature contrasts with the fluid intensity of painting. Yet, the process remains equally free and intuitive, unfolding without a rigid plan.
