Home and Away has received extraordinary critical praise since its Fall 2023 theatrical release in Finland. Mr Arto Halonen will open the movie and many of the stars of the movie will be in attendance
Arto Halonen’s latest documentary feature, Home and Away, is about the relationships between fathers and sons, and about putting down roots in a new world. Shawn Huff and Ervin Latimer Jr are the children of two African-American basketball players – Leon Huff and Ervin Latimer Sr – who moved to Finland in the 1970s. The fathers have handed down their legacy of perseverance, ambition and resistance to racism, and the sons have grown up to become social and politicalinfluencers. The sons channel the experiences of the
fathers and transform those experiences into action, and both generations fight for a more equal society.

EarthAngels of Finland was established in 2003. Its focus is improving the wellbeing of immigrants with an African background residing in Finland, and increasing knowledge of African cultures
amongst native Finns. We plan many events focusing on the lost or unknown history of Black Americans. With the advent of the Black Lives Matter movement, we have noticed that there is a niche that has been ignored.
In February, we produce the yearly “SAY IT LOUD” BLACK AMERICAN HISTORY MONTH IN FINLAND, which coincides with Dr. Martin Luther King’s, and Frederick Douglass’ birthdays.

Kriitikkojen ylistämä Suomeen juurtuneet -dokumenttielokuva on osa helmikuun Black American History -ohjelmaa. Ohjaaja Arto Halonen ja usea dokumenttielokuvan tähti ovat myös paikalla!
Shawn Huff ja Ervin Latimer Jr. ovat 1970-luvulla Suomeen saapuneiden afroamerikkalaisten koripallopelaajien (Leon Huff ja Ervin Latimer Sr.) lapsia. He ovat kasvaneet suomalaisiksi yhteiskunnallisiksi ja poliittisiksi vaikuttajiksi isiensä periksiantamattomuuden, kunnianhimoisuuden ja rasististen lähtökohtien kautta.
Molemmat pojat elävät käänteentekeviä hetkiä elämässään, samalla kun prosessoivat monimutkaista suhdettaan isiinsä, sukupolvien välisten näkemysten ristiriitoja ja roolejaan vähemmistöryhmien edustajina.

EarthAngels of Finland perustettiin vuonna 2003. Sen tavoitteena on parantaa afrikkalaistaustaisten maahanmuuttajien hyvinvointia Suomessa ja lisätä suomalaisten tietämystä afrikkalaisista kulttuureista. Järjestämme monia tapahtumia keskittyen
afroamerikkalaisten kadonneeseen tai tuntemattomaan historiaan. Black Lives Matter-liikkeen myötä olemme huomanneet, että tässä on laiminlyöty markkinarako.
Suunnitelmamme on tuottaa vuosittainen Afroamerikkalaisen historian kuukausi, joka osuu yhteen Dr. Martin Luther Kingin ja Frederick Douglassin syntymäpäivien kanssa.
