REHUPIIKLES is a humorous rock ’n’ roll, jazz, country, blues and folk band whose music and show can make even a bone-deep grump laugh. The name Rehupiikles comes from the fact that, back in the day, the old farmers and their wives in South Ostrobothnia couldn’t pronounce the name of the Beatles. The prefix ‘Rehu’, of course, refers to agriculture and the countryside.
The original idea came about when the band’s frontman, Joose Tammelin, translated the Beatles’ lyrics into the South Ostrobothnian dialect. For example, ‘Hard Days Night’ became ‘Koventunpuoloonen ehtoo’, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’ became ‘Mua flikat ei saa’ and ‘I Wanna Hold Your Hand’ became ‘Käsikynkkää’.
Years have passed, albums have been made and gigs played, and things just keep getting crazier. There’s plenty of new material too. Let’s celebrate all the madness and fun. Don’t be so serious!
