A small footprint, a big impact

Here at Art House Turku, we believe that even small actions can have a big impact. This is particularly true when they are carried out by a larger group of people. That is why, as a community, we are committed to making sustainable and responsible choices in our daily lives, in our decision-making and in our planning for the future.

To achieve our climate targets, we work closely with the property owner, Kiinteistö Oy Turun Nunnankatu 4. Together, we develop solutions that support energy efficiency, resource wisdom and long-term development.

At the same time, we are strengthening the expertise of our tenants and event organisers in the area of sustainability – we encourage sustainable production methods, the planning and consideration of the life cycle of products and activities, and smooth, environmentally friendly transport solutions.

Our activities support the City of Turku’s climate plan, the LUMO programme, the forest plan, the Baltic Sea Challenge , the circular economy roadmap and the procurement strategy. We are also committed to safeguarding and strengthening biodiversity and to transitioning to a resource-wise circular economy by 2029.

Nature conservation targets

  • We identify and assess the environmental impacts of our operations, products and services.
  • Our primary aim is to avoid negative impacts and, secondarily, to mitigate them.
  • In particular, we work to enhance local biodiversity.

As a matter of principle, the Art House Turku office aims to make choices that require no offsetting.

Circular economy targets

We build on the principle of resource wisdom.

  • We set and report on circular economy targets as part of our annual report.
  • We design operating models in which materials and resources remain in circulation for as long as possible.
  • We promote a culture of borrowing, sharing and collaborative use.

Concrete measures

Construction, energy and nature

  • Renovations focus on sustainable solutions and energy efficiency
  • District heating is used for heating
  • We source green electricity as part of the Turku City Group
  • We are developing the greenery and vegetation in the courtyard
  • Cleaning – ecological and social procurement criteria are taken into account in the procurement process.

Purchases and consumption

  • We prioritise local and domestic services and products
  • We avoid single-use solutions wherever possible
  • We are increasing the number of recycling bins in communal areas and require tenants to sort their waste
  • We are improving the efficiency of waste sorting.

Transportation

  • We recommend travelling on foot, by bike or by public transport
  • For longer journeys, we recommend travelling by train.

Competence and culture

  • We organise training sessions on sustainable development, more responsible ways of practising the arts, and the use of digital and virtual platforms
  • We reduce our digital footprint by minimising unnecessary email correspondence and the duplication of data storage.

Community and cooperation

  • We contributed the community to the development of the Art House Turku responsibility strategy
  • We are committed to fostering collaboration between the organisation and the community
  • We encourage active networking and new initiatives to build a sustainable future.
