Motions/Notions exhibition consists of Jone Mutka’s recent works that combine photo-based printmaking and installation. The exhibition is mainly executed with screen printing, combined with various three-dimensional elements.

The works explore the ways in which images are constructed, both in physical reality and on digital platforms. They can be seen as a kind of collection of different methods of presenting and recording images—different ways in which an image can exist.

In the works, the printmaking pieces are arranged in ways uncharacteristic to them. Different stages of the process are visible, for example woven, torn, or layered on top of each other. The works depict the formation, transformation, or disappearance of both photographs and memories.

Jone Mutka (b. 1993) works with printmaking and installation. Mutka often creates works in collaboration with machines such as a laser cutter or a computer. At the core of his practice is information, and the different ways of storing, reproducing, transforming, or damaging it. He is currently completing his Master’s studies at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of the Arts Helsinki. Mutka has participated in exhibitions in Finland as well as across Europe, Japan, and the United States. His works are included in the collections of the Finnish State and the Jyväskylä Art Museum.
