Tiina Vainio
Every time I arrive at the courtyard of the Art House, I am filled with joy that my studio is here. It is great to be part of this community in the middle of historic Turku! I work both in my own studio and in the workshop of Turku Printmakers Association in the Art House Turku.
The subjects of my works deal with history and the dimensions of time, the human living environment or nature. There are gestures in my work that invite posthumanism, which awaken ecological sensitivity. In my works, I also deal with controversial issues; the resilience of nature, the upheaval of the human mind or the change of the cityscape and cultural landscape. I like to use surprising materials and delicious combinations. A sculpture is built from wigs or twigs, a sail acts as a canvas for painting, etc. I believe in the power of beauty and humor. With their help, even difficult issues can be discussed more effectively.
