Matti Helenius

In recent years, Matti Helenius has focused on assemblages. His works consist almost entirely of recycled materials. His work is more intuitive than analytical. His works, which take a critical look at society, are insightful and surprising, not to mention humorous.

Matti is a graphic artist and visual artist. He graduated from the Turku Art Association’s drawing school in 1973. From 1981 to 1991, he worked and studied in Stockholm. He has participated in numerous exhibitions in Finland and abroad in more than thirty countries. He has also won several awards for his graphic art.
His works are included in numerous public collections in Finland and abroad, including the Ateneum and Kiasma. He was awarded a special artist’s pension by the Finnish government in 2012.
