By whose measurements was the world built, and to whom does it belong? The exhibition Cats and Empire explores the boundaries of territories, ownership and justice. Video installations and photographs offer glimpses into the realities of Italian street cats, only to end up hurling a hammer across a snow-covered Finnish field.

In the works, the human body becomes a measuring instrument, the cats`world eludes human understanding, and what we consider natural begins to seem rather a matter of convention. Can we find, in the blind spots of empire, measures of what is reasonable, perspectives for an ongoing negotiation, or merely what we want to see?
