In her works, Tiina Vainio deals with beauty and its price. She brings out the harmfulness of substances used in the cosmetics industry for humans and the rest of nature.

In her work Beautiful Cosmetics, Vainio’s cosmetic jars, bottles and jars made of reed paper are displayed in beautiful frames. The flip side of beauty is hidden in cosmetic product labels. Vainio’s work is accompanied by an information package about certain chemicals used in the cosmetics industry and their effects on humans and nature.

The main material of the works is reed, from which Vainio has made paper herself. Reed is one of the plants that lives and spreads in worryingly eutrophic water bodies. The utilization of the reed in Finland is low and new uses are constantly being sought for it.

In the second work of the exhibition, For Butterflies, Vainio has studied endangered animal species, rare butterfly species. The work For Butterflies is completed during the exhibition, when Vainio works with Butterflies in the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays. The public now has the opportunity to participate in the completion of Vainio’s For the Butterflies work in Aski by doing their own endangered butterfly to Vainio’s collection of works.

Tiina Vainio is a visual artist from Turku, whose long-term themes in her art have been nature and human influence on it.
