Café Elephanten
Organiser: Petri Tähtinen
On Tuesdays from 18-20, starting 30.7.2024
Café Elephanten, Nunnankatu 4
The first four debates of the series will be held in Finnish (30.7./6.8./13.8./20.8.)
Last four times we will be conducting the discussion on virtues in English (27.8./3.9./10.9./17.9.)
The discussion series will address the virtues by adapting them locally to the international FiloCafe discussion format. In short, FiloCafe is not about talking philosophy, it is about practising it. The central idea is that by asking and discussing examples together, we will get somewhere: we will become more aware of the topic of the evening.
The discussion will start from the personal experiences of the participants, which will allow us to reflect and explore together what is involved; what are our thoughts, prejudices, expectations and images. You can prepare yourself by thinking in advance about an example from your own life related to the topic. It could be a concrete situation in which you have realised or identified a virtue to be discussed at each session, e.g. practical wisdom.
The discussion series will be led by students of Philosophical Practice Petri Tähtinen, Joona Tefke and Sini Taneli
