Art House Turku celebrates Turku Day by opening a new gallery space, Kilta Gallery, and a new cinema, Kino Kilta. Kilta Gallery and Kino Kilta will be opened in the Fire Brigade Building, which has undergone extensive renovation.

“We have reason to celebrate together on Turku Day!” says Jere Pensikkala, Managing Director of Art House Turku.
“The Fire Brigade Building of Art House Turku has undergone a complete renovation within a very tight schedule, which was only possible in the hands of skilled professionals. The work has required creativity and dedication, as the challenges encountered have been solved through fruitful collaboration between designers, contractors and users.”

Heini Aho’s exhibition starts the WAM exhibition series at Kilta Gallery

Kilta Gallery’s exhibition series will begin on 15 September with a solo exhibition by Turku-based visual artist Heini Aho. In her exhibition that consists of sculptures and installations, Aho examines everyday matters and objects that we take for granted, and explores their use from a new perspective. The works convey a sense of wonderment and the need to explore, but they are also infused with a dose of humour.

“It is exciting and inspiring to make WAM part of Turku’s vibrant arts hub and to get new partnerships for the future,” comments Project Director Satu Pajarre.
“As the modern art museum of the city, it is important for WAM to be a strong actor in visual arts also during the renovation of the museum building. The Kilta Gallery exhibition series will continue to showcase local contemporary art, but on the scale of a smaller gallery space.”

After the Heini Aho exhibition, the gallery will see exhibitions from Jussi HaroAnu HalmesmaaFanny Varjo and Matti Helenius.
