Take a peek at the Art House Turku late summer programme
It has been a busy and multi-cultural summer in the grounds of Art House Turku, full of experiences for all the senses. ILMIÖ brought 8,000 art and culture lovers to the area, several summer art exhibitions have attracted thousands of visitors and the “Päin Brinkkalaa” revue has already attracted more than 400 spectators. The summer season at Art House Turku is still ongoing, so it’s worth coming to enjoy the wide range of art and culture.
The main exhibition of the summer, Dressed for Dinner, continues until 4 August in the Main hall on the second floor of the Factory. The exhibition is open daily from 11-18 and admission is free. Artist Antti Eklund will be present at the exhibition on Thursdays and Saturdays from 14:00 to 15:00. From August 9th we will again get to enjoy the wonderful group exhibition, Overflow III, by the Art House Turku tenants. The exhibition is open daily 11-18 until 1st September, and the admission is free.
The Critical Gallery, located in the Brinkkala gateway of the Art House courtyard, is hosting an exhibition of the French-born Ragnar Elnyg until 28 July. The exhibition´s theme is transitions and it is the artist’s first solo show. The Critical Gallery will next screen the film Omos, by Rhys Hollis, Andrea Baker, Divine Tasinda and Kheanna Walker. The exhibition will be from 2 to 25 August. Admission to the Critical Gallery is free and the gallery is open Tue-Sun 12-18.
Gallery Aski can be entered from both Nunnankatu and the courtyard of the Art House. Currently on show in the gallery from 24 July to 4 August is Tiina Vainio’s Cosmetics and Chemicals, which deals with beauty and its price. In the second work in the exhibition, For Butterflies, Vainio has studied an endangered animal species, rare butterfly species. The work “For butterflies” will be completed during the exhibition, when Vainio will be working on butterflies in the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays. The public will have the opportunity to participate in the completion of the artwork by registering their own endangered butterfly in Vainio’s work. The gallery is open Tue-Sun 12-18 and admission is free.
On 30 July, there will start a new debate series Elephant in the Café: Virtues on the table and in conversation. This series of talks will explore virtues by adapting them locally to the international FiloCafe discussion style. The discussion series will be led by students of Philosophical Practice Petri Tähtinen, Joona Tefke and Sini Taneli.
In August in Mediastudio and History room at the Factory´s second floor an international exchange exhibition Cultural Kaleidoscope will be exhibited by art groups from Japan, Finland and USA, that are working for the empowerment of local art. The exhibition title “Cultural Kaleidoscope”, meaning a kaleidoscope of cultures, refers to the ever-changing nature of the various artists and topics brought together to create diverse and dynamic experiences. The exhibition is open daily from 6th until 30th August from 11-18. The exhibition has free admission.
The Punk and Yäk! festival, which was organised for the first time last summer and received a lot of praise, will be held again on 9-10 August. Get your tickets in advance from Stupido Market or Tiketti.
