The Old Town celebrates on Turku Cathedral’s birthday on 17 June 2023. Turku Cathedral, or ‘Dom’, will be a magnificent 723 years old this June!

Highlights from the day’s programme

Turku Cathedral 

  • 1 pm, Birthday celebrations with a troubadour at the Domcafé terrace. 400 free tickets for Tomi Metsäketo’s DBTL cathedral concert on 29 July will be handed out.
  • 7 pm, The Turku Recitation Society will perform Mikael Agricola’s poems in the Tarkk’ampuja chapel.
  • 7 pm, Church wine tasting at Cathedral Park Terrace. Price 30 €. The enrolment begins on June 1st at 10 o’clock at turuntuomiokirkkoseurakunta.fi
  • 7 pm – 9 pm, Open doors.

Kirkkopuisto terrace

  • 12 pm – 11 pm Viinipuisto wine festival
  • 12 pm – 5 pm, Performative portrait studio by master photographer Vesa Aaltonen.
  • 2 pm – 4 pm, Improvisation group Läsnäolopakko
  • 5 pm, Kauko Röyhkä 
  • 6 pm – 10 pm, DJ Janne Salminen 

Sibelius Museum

  • 2 pm to 5 pm, Turku Folks! orchestra’s open rehearsal.

The Old Great Square 

  • 11 am – 3 pm, Turkuseura: Turku flea market
  • 12 pm – 4 pm, Turku Art Lending Service’s pop-up stand (weather permitting)

Brinkkala courtyard

  • 11 am – 5 pm, Taito Varsinais-Suomi: Brinkkalan lankatori market

Art House Turku

Activities for the whole family in the courtyard, 12 pm – 4 pm:

  • Linnateatteri theatre presents: Romuluksen vieraat (Guests of Romulus), 12 pm and 2 pm.
  • The Regional Dance Centre of Western Finland presents: Kesäkulkurit (Summer Vagabonds), 1 pm and 3 pm.
  • Toivonpunokset x Ruisrock workshop, 12 pm – 4 pm.
  • Small publishing houses’ book fair, 12 pm – 4 pm.

Indoor activities:

  • Kaj Stenvall: Sodan kasvot (Faces of War) and other exhibitions at the Art House Turku, 11 am – 6 pm.
  • Turku University Theatre: Bad Media Karma, 4 pm (entrance fee).
  • Flashbang Blockparty, starting at 8 pm (entrance fee).

Museums, galleries, and restaurants in the Old Town area will also be open.
