Tiina Vainio’s exhibition Cosmetics and Chemicals opens at Gallery Aski and is open 24.7.-4.8.2024 Tue-Sun 12-18. Opening on Tuesday 23.7.2024 17-19, welcome!

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to participate in the creation of For Butterflies work by recording their own endangered butterfly in the work during weekend workshops from 12 to 18 p.m. The butterflies will be made of reed paper produced by Vainio.

In For Butterflies, Vainio has studied rare butterfly species. There are 384 species of butterflies classified as endangered in Finland. Of these, 39 are extremely endangered, 193 critically endangered and 154 endangered. The For Butterflies exhibit will be completed during the course of the exhibition, as Vainio works on more butterflies with workshop participants in the gallery on Saturdays and Sundays.

The main material of the works is reed, from which Vainio has made paper herself. Reed is one of the plants that lives and spreads in worryingly eutrophic water bodies. The utilization of the reed in Finland is low and new uses are constantly being sought for it.

One of the aims of Gallery Aski is to open up the working methods and current themes of the artists working in the Art House to the people of Turku and to give the viewers a more authentic experience of making art. The public now has the opportunity to participate in the completion of Tiina Vainio’s work For Butterflies by registering their own endangered butterfly in Vainio’s collection.

Tiina Vainio is a visual artist from Turku, whose long-term themes in her art have been nature and human influence on it.
