JARKKO RANTANEN: PAINTINGS OF TREES
4.9.-15.9.2024 Tue-Sun at 12-18
3.9. opening at 17-19
The works in the exhibition are based on a forest on Jurmo Island, a clearing in Kaarina and individual trees in Vartiovuori in Turku and St.James’ Park in London.
As a painter, I am fascinated by the abundance of shapes and colourful harmony in the forest. The forest works are quick observations of the environment, while the abundance of detail in the Hakkuuaukea work makes it even difficult to look at.
My first forest exhibition was at the Old Town Hall Gallery in 2015. Since then, the theme has accompanied me in my artistic work. It has shaped my painting style to be freer and more experimental. I always try to capture the character of a place and use different painting styles to achieve this. The work ranges from the private representational to the more free expressive painting.
Jarkko Rantanen (b. 1980) is a painter living in Piikkiö and working at Art House Turku.
