The exhibition features new paintings that loosely revolve around the theme of water.

In my paintings I often deal with the major elements of the landscape; land, sky, water and their intersections. Water is present as reflections, waves, movement or contrast to the permanent elements; rock and earth.

I am interested in presence and introspection in front of the landscape, in finding the inner meaning of the landscape. As an introvert, following the world from the sidelines, nature is both a resource and a necessity for me, and I share these feelings through my paintings.

My paintings contain a memory and a longing of a place and a moment, but they do not depict a specific geographical location or time. My landscapes are located in a mythical Somewhere, an in-between space.

I like the idea that the viewer forms their own image of what they see and experience in my paintings and can thus relate them to their own meaningful memories and experiences.

I use acrylic paints in my paintings. I like to use a variety of colours and painting techniques. I make some of the colours myself from acrylic medium and colour pigments. The self-made colours add a sense of surprise, texture and randomness to the paintings. Those are the qualities that ready-made paints try to avoid but that I appreciate.

Kristina Isaksson is a painter from Kaarina who works at the Art House Turku.
