Kati Immonen
I have worked primarily as a water colour painter since 2000. I renew watercolour techniques as one of the mediums of contemporary painting by including surprising contents and techniques to these enlightening and multifaceted paintings. These paintings are also starting points for my public commissions and animations. My latest public work “Sheltered by Rhododendrons” (2022) is located at Raide-Jokeri local railway linestop at Espoo Kurkijoenpuisto. I also work in the artist group Merisiskot/SeaSisters, which deals with ecology, the Baltic Sea and its life, together with Mari Krappala, Elina Ruohonen and Tiina Vainio.
My newest paintings are based on Faberge eggs made for the last Emperor of Russia. These amazing pieces made by superb goldsmiths display unique craft and extremely fine craftmanship. Many pieces were lost during the Russian revolution. In my own depictions of these magnificent eggs, I was excited to study how these disappeared eggs would have been like and what kind of visions of little bit alternative future they could have shown.
